Rockbox in Your Car
2016-06-22
I'm using in my car a small music player, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+. I replaced the original firmware with the open firmware called RockBox Version 3.12, since 3.13 made problems on booting. Old versions can be found here
Some settings are needed, to make it the perfect player for audio books in a car.
Automatic Power On/Off
The player is connected to the board power supply via a USB-charger, which is switched on and off with the ignition of the car (this depends on the type of your car).
RockBox has a dedicated setting for using in a Car, which powers the player on, when charging starts:
Settings - General Settings - System - Car Adapter Mode: ON
This must be combined with automatic power off:
Settings - General Settings - Startup/Shutdown - Idle Power Off: 10 Minutes or similar
and the auto-resume on power-up:
Settings - General Settings - Startup/Shutdown - Start Screen: Resume Playback
Settings for Audio Books
If we want to switch between audio books, bookmarks are very useful:
Settings - General Settings - Bookmarking - Bookmark on Stop: Yes – Recent Only
Settings - General Settings - Bookmarking - Maintain a list of Recent Bookmarks: YES
Settings - General Settings - Bookmarking - Update on Stop: YES
Settings - General Settings - Bookmarking - Load Last Bookmark: YES
To give us some time to get into the audio book again, we do a rewind of 40s:
Settings - Playback Settings - Rewind Before Resume: 40s
To give us the possibility to replay the last seconds, perhaps to understand a difficult or important sentence better, we use the Pause/Play button for this:
Settings - Playback Settings - Rewind on Pause: 15s
